He looked at his wrist . The sundial said eight forty five. “This traffic is worse than usual” thought Arjun. “It’s going to be tight”. He wiped his brow with a handkerchief. The sun was already warming the air. The heat was collecting on the pavement. His horses waited at the stoplight, seeming to know the traffic patterns on Marine Drive instinctively. The light turned green and the mighty steeds began a trot that soon became a gallop. The wind rushed through Arjun’s hair as the Arabian Sea shimmered in the morning light. Arjun pulled out his conch, took a deep breath filling his lungs and blew with all his might. For a moment it felt like the traffic stood still and he was back on the plains of Kurushetra.

For that moment Arjun saw a host of Kauravas before him with swords drawn. Arjun pulled out his sword as well, the sun glinting off the sharp edge. Shalya moved forward toward Arjun on horseback, his teeth showing as his mouth opened in fury. The building rage in Shalya’s heart caused his mouth to foam and a sickly trail of saliva dribbled down his cheek.

The rickshaw behind him blared its horn and Arjun returned to Marine Drive. He pushed his horses onwards hoping he would make it in time to the negotiations with Bhisma. Glancing once more at his sundial, Arjun was relieved that he had twenty seven minutes to make it to the start of the meeting. He drove the horses on as the traffic lessened. He entered the parking lot and found a space that seemed just a little tight. “How could I possibly fit?” Arjun pondered. In a moment of divine intervention, Lord Krishna appeared and advised the tormented Arjun. “Look at the parking space. It will be there before you park and after you leave it will remain. So park your chariot and steeds faithfully knowing this.” Arjun thanked Lord Krishna and let his steeds rest with the chariot. He gathered his conch and quiver and walked to the glass and concrete office building. The elevator was crowded so he had to squeeze in by shuffling his quiver to the front of his body and gently placing the conch in besides the arrows. HE took the elevator to the fourth floor and entered the conference room. Bhishma was on the teleconference unit already. Arjun took a deep breath and prepared for battle.
