why do myths matter?

some ideas:

1) they provide good stories

2) they give insight into what the creators and believers of the myths thought are / were important

we have modern myths, like the myth of Elon Musk as a self-made genius. The myth of Elon Musk does give insight into what the believers value: individuals breaking societal norms for wealth and status.

Individuals breaking societal norms as a good thing? Not necessarily a universal value. A different value system may value someone fulfilling societal norms with dignity and honor.

That reminds me of something I read on Facebook along the lines of this article: https://christopherfinlan.com/…/dirty-harry-a-model…/

and this article: https://www.popmatters.com/dirty-harry-don-siegel-violence
